War in Ukraine to affect Eastern Europe’s tourism season 2022
The tourism industry in Central and Eastern Europe is expected to be negatively affected in season 2022 by the war in Ukraine started by Russia on February 24th, Thai EconomicNews Service reported referring to experts’ preliminary estimations. The major impact will be for the countries bordering Ukraine as tourists will avoid travelling to the region this year.
The tourism industry in Europe has already been hit by the coronavirus pandemic since 2020. The war’s impact on the sector can not be calculated at this point. Yet, people have stopped making bookings, Anke Budde, vice president of Germany's Federal Association of the Alliance of Independent Travel Entrepreneurs, commented.
In addition to the pandemic and the war, there is a third challenge for the tourism sector. The increasing prices of raw materials have left people with less and less money available for travel, Thai EconomicNews Service noted.
